Somehow, someway, Russian Circles has managed to become increasingly soulless with each album. Not that every album has been a direct drop in quality, but that they have lost more and more of their personality as time goes on, even when I thought they couldn’t lose any more. Guidance is a bland, ambient guitar bore-a-thon who’s only saved by how good of a song Calla is. Any last shred of creativity that this band had is gone, and probably gone for good. Though, there wasn’t much there in the first place. If you’ve heard any heavy modern post-rock in your life time, you know what you’ll hear here. Make of that what you will in terms of quality.
